A Case Study
Understanding the needs of our clients is central to our mission at Connecting Insights.
To gain insight first-hand into the networking challenges and benefits students and professionals encounter, we've recently conducted two independent research studies. In the spring of 2009, we connected with 200 students at more than 30 universities nationwide to guage their understanding business networking. In the late spring of 2009, 178 Experienced Networkers shared with us how networking has impacted their careers.
22% of participants included the intention of mutual benefit in their definition, 44% included personal benefits of networking, and 34% didn't have a reason, purpose, or intention embedded into their definition of networking.
To determine how comfortable students are introducing themselves to new people, and if a Social or Professional setting impacted their comfort level, we asked, "How comfortable are you introducing yourself to new people" in both capacities.
Our research suggests that setting (Social and Professional) has limited impact on comfort level.
Further below, the cross-tabulation table compares "frequency of networking", and, "comfort level introducing self to professionals".
